Sherman Oaks, CA: Doctor, wife found dead in Sherman Oaks driveway; murder-suicide suspected

Police were trying to determine Thursday why a Tarzana doctor shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in the driveway of their Sherman Oaks home.

“It is being investigated as a murder-suicide,” said Officer Bruce Borihanh, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

“Detectives are interviewing anybody and everybody to see if they can determine a motive," he continued. "There are no outside suspects being pursued.”

Police called to the home of Alex Michaelson, 39, and his wife, Vera Michaelson, 32, in the 15000 block of Sherview Place around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday found the couple dead, Borihanh said.

Detectives also found a weapon at the scene.
“That’s how they determined it was a murder-suicide,” Borihanh said.

Borihanh confirmed that Alex Michaelson was a physician and his wife had recently graduated from dental school, but it was unclear where she worked.

The couple have two children, but they were not home at the time, Borihanh said.

According to broadcast news reports, neighbors told police they had heard gunshots between 11 a.m. and noon Wednesday, but they failed to immediately alert authorities.
