A man who allegedly stabbed to death a 25-year-old woman Tuesday night in the southern valley near Las Vegas Boulevard was her former boyfriend, Metro Police said today.
Alexandria Victoria Whitmarsh, of Las Vegas, died after being taken to University Medical Center, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.
Police arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Ronnie Long, last night about two miles from where the stabbing occurred, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.
Authorities said Whitmarsh was walking with a man just before 10 p.m. on Giles Street at Windmill Lane when Long approached her. A fight ensued and Long allegedly stabbed her multiple times before running away, Meltzer said.
Police later apprehended him near the intersection of Dean Martin Drive and Warm Springs Road. Long was suffering from possible self-inflicted stab wounds and also was taken to UMC.
He was charged with murder with a deadly weapon, according to Clark County Detention Center records. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
The coroner hasn't officially determined the victim's cause and manner of death.
