Fresno - A nearly 7-hour long SWAT standoff came to an end late Tuesday night after officers find a man wanted for murder, dead, inside a southeast Fresno apartment.
The situation began at about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Fresno police got a call from a woman saying her ex-boyfriend had a gun. The woman was shot and killed on Shields Avenue, near Sierra Vista. Police say the motive was domestic violence-related.
The shooter then fled to an apartment complex on Yale Avenue and Sierra Vista, a little more than half-a-mile away from where the shooting took place, and barricaded himself inside one of the units.
SWAT team members arrived on scene.
Police say family members were able to get a hold of the man at one point, but police never made contact with him.
At about 10:30 Tuesday night, SWAT team members and crisis negotiators broke down the door of the apartment, and found the man had taken his own life by shooting himself.
Police found a high-powered rifle and bullets in the room as well.
The former couple have two children together; they were not hurt.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
