Domestic violence is a horrific malfunction
of society that affects millions each year
and results in physical and emotional
injuries ... even death.
On May 10, in California a man grabbed
his ex-girlfriend and pointed a gun at her.
Her male friend intervened and was shot
and killed. The shooter then turned the gun
on his ex and killed her. Law enforcement
arrived within minutes, and the shooter was
killed in a confrontation with them. The
male victim was my nephew, Malvin Conley
Jr., my brother's 43-year-old son.
A neighbor was quoted in the paper as
saying that the shooter was the “nicest man
in the world and that the female victim
pushed the killer too far and he just
snapped.” These murders are not about a
nice man being pushed and snapping.
These murders are about ultimate control.
Abuse cases require the expertise of the
well-qualified and properly trained to
navigate through the complexity of those
who would feign normalcy, but plot
violence.
This devastation is not about the sick. It is
about the slick. If you are a victim or a
victimizer, seek help. Call the national
hotline 800-799-7223 or Helpmate Inc.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
