An apparent attempted murder-suicide left a man in his 20s dead and a woman seriously wounded in the city's East Amherst-Bailey area late this morning.

The woman, also believed to be in her 20s, was shot in the face. She was taken to Erie County Medical Center, police said.

They found 23-year-old Wendy Broadus of Buffalo bleeding from a gunshot wound to her upper body. She had fled to the store after being shot by 23-year-old Kasmar Williams at her home at 234 Parkridge Avenue.

The man was declared dead at the scene, in the 200 block of Parkridge Avenue, just north of East Amherst Street, west of Bailey Avenue.

Authorities described the man and woman as a couple, although it's not clear whether they were married.

Police responded to a report of the shootings just before 11 a.m.
