A couple found shot to death in a northwest Denver home Tuesday had a troubled relationship, court records indicate.
Denver police said Steven A. Romero, 44, shot Denise Fransua, 44, of Parker in the chest, then shot himself in the head inside his home at 3847 Bryant St.
The Denver Medical Examiner's Office on Wednesday ruled Fransua's death a homicide and Romero's a suicide. Their bodies were discovered by a relative in the rented basement apartment of the home at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Fransua received a temporary restraining order against Romero on June 28 last year, citing domestic abuse, court records show.
A permanent restraining order was granted by Douglas County Judge Frank Moschetti on Nov. 2.
A Denver police spokesman said the couple was not married and did not live together. Records show they shared the home Fransua owns in the Pinery in Douglas County from 2006 until last year.
Fransua holds an active state license as a chemical-addiction counselor, records show.
Romero was arrested in Wheat Ridge in 1987 for attempted vehicle theft, trespassing and attempted larceny and the same year in Denver for trespassing, records show. In 1989, he was arrested on larceny charges in Denver; in 1990, he was charged in Denver with disturbing the peace and public intoxication.
