Press Release from the U.S. Marshal's Office:
On Friday May 13, 2011, the U.S. Marshals in Midland were notified by U.S. Marshals in San Antonio who are all part of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, that there had been a homicide in San Antonio yesterday morning. According to the information, Jose Eladio Martinez (DOB 04/28/1973) had shot and killed his ex wife in San Antonio yesterday morning at a furniture store where they both worked. Martinez is from Midland, and investigators believed that he might have fled to the Midland area. A team of U.S. Marshals investigators immediately began setting up surveillance on different locations, and observed a tan Ford Pickup arrive at one of the addresses, but the male subject driving did not look like a photo that had been provided to investigators. After this person got into another vehicle with another male subject, it was learned that the Ford pickup had been reported stolen out of San Antonio. An attempt to locate was broadcast to local law enforcement, and a Midland Police Detective located the suspect vehicle at a 7-11 store at Big Spring and Wadley. Further investigation revealed that Martinez arrived in Midland last night. This afternoon, he was dropped off at a residence on N. Lamesa street. U.S. Marshals and Midland Police went to that residence and located Martinez. He was arrested without incident, and was not armed at the time of the arrest. He has been taken to the Midland County Sheriff’s office and will be moved back to Bexar County at a later date to face charges related to the murder.
