A Franklin County man is now behind bars after police say he shot his girlfriend in the face, killing her.
21 year old Christopher Dotson is charged with murdering his girlfriend, 43 year old Katherine McManus Saturday night on Canton Church Road near Fork Mountain.
A friend of McManus told police Dotson had physically abused his girlfriend but she did not want to leave the relationship. Dotson's grandfather tells News7 the two were living with him and saw no sign of abuse until the shooting.
Dotson is currently held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
