(08-02) 18:52 PDT SAN PABLO --
Authorities say they are trying to figure out why a resident of unincorporated area near San Pablo fatally shot his wife early Sunday morning before turning the gun on himself.
As of Sunday evening, the alleged shooter remained in grave condition at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
The incident happened just after midnight on Heather Drive in the Montalvin Manor neighborhood, said Contra Costa County sheriff's Lt. Eric Navarro.
A 17-year-old boy, who is the oldest of the couple's three children and was the only other person in the home during the shooting, called 911 after hearing gunfire, Navarro said.
Paramedics pronounced Magalay Iglesias, 33, dead at the scene, while the boy's father was flown to the hospital, Navarro said.
