Chattooga County, GA: Wife Admits She Killed Her Husband

2009-08-04 16:51:10

A case of domestic violence ends in murder in Chattooga County but the victim in this case is not a woman. Instead, investigators believe the wife killed her husband in a fit of rage. The Chattooga County Sheriff says the couple had been drinking all day. While it's still unclear exactly what caused the wife to violently attack her husband, the Sheriff says there's no sign that he fought back. But, he says there is evidence that their marriage was full of vicious fights and violence.

It was inside their home in Chattooga County that marriage vows vanished and violence erupted between a husband and wife.

Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett says, "According to the neighbors they were both intoxicated and they'd been fighting."

The evidence of alcohol is piled up outside their home, and authorities say the couple was intoxicated when a violent fight broke out Saturday night. Sheriff Everett says around 6:15 Dora Treadaway attacked her husband, Randy. "There was a steel broom handle found laying outside on the steps of the mobile home and that is possibly the object used in this crime."

Everett says Dora beat her husband so badly that he died from blunt force trauma to the head and back. But, authorities say Randy was only a victim and never fought back against his wife. "There is no evidence on her that there was any injury to her."

We did talk with the next door neighbor and friend off camera, he was still shaken up, but says he was home Saturday night when Dora knocked on his door and said "I think I killed him this time."

Everett says this is Chattooga County's first murder of the year. "It appears to be an open and shut case based on her statements and neighbors statements and evidence we found on the scene."

But, there was no evidence on Randy's body. The Sheriff says he was found naked in the bathroom, with bruises but no blood. And, he says, it's unclear what led a wife to such a brutal attack of her husband. "Anytime we have a loss of life it's sad for the county, the community, the families."

We did learn that both Dora and Randy Treadaway do have a history of domestic violence. His body is now at the GBI crime lab awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
