The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is investigating what it believes to be the suicide of a 26-year-old Fort Bragg man after he fatally shot his girlfriend Monday.

At 5:13 p.m. Monday, deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office were called to the 31800 block of Airport Road, Fort Bragg for what was reported to police as a suicide, according to a Tuesday report from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

Amy Rochelle Salo was dead inside a bathroom from what looks to be a gunshot to her face, the Sheriff's Office stated.

On the living room floor, Jacob Gregory Swanson was found dead from an apparent shot to his head with a gun nearby, the Sheriff's Office stated.

The Sheriff's Office says that according to preliminary findings, Salo is considered to have been murdered for reasons that are not known at this time.

An autopsy on both bodies is scheduled for today, the results of which will be released to the public later, the Sheriff's Office stated.

A relative of Swanson's reported a suicide to police. According to the Sheriff's Office, the relative said that Swanson was picked up from his job by Salo, who was described as his girlfriend, about noon on Monday.

At about 2:30 p.m., Swanson had not come back to work which was unusual for him. Swanson's relative became concerned and
