Mineral County Sheriff’s Dept. has released more information following a murder-suicide back on Saturday in the community of Wiley Ford over the weekend.

The sheriff’s dept. says 47-year-old Tammy Deetz tried to call 9-1-1 after she and her husband began fighting around five o’clock Saturday evening. Her husband, Kenneth Deetz, 43, disconnected the telephone before Tammy could talk with emergency operators.

Police say Mrs. Deetz then ran into the woods near their home near Alternative Route 28. That’s when sheriff’s deputies say Kenneth Deetz shot his wife in the head. He then walked back to the front of their home and shot himself in the head.

When a deputy arrived on the scene he found two young children inside the home. The couple had recently adopted one of them, an 18-month-old, and the other was a 4-year-old grandchild. Both were unharmed.

Investigators say they are still interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to shed light on what caused the argument to erupt into a deadly shooting.

Both bodies were sent to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsies.
