Phoenix, AZ:PD: Man who stabbed wife shot, killed by Phoenix officer

Police said the unidentified man refused to put down the knife and an officer fired a stun gun at him Click the play button on the video window to the see the story PHOENIX -- Authorities say a man who stabbed his wife several times was shot and killed by Phoenix police officers Sunday afternoon. According to Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes, 53-year-old Ascencion Villasenor-Lopez and his wife, Carmen Beltran Villlasenor, 48, started arguing about 2 p.m. Holmes said their 14-year-old son and a friend ran to a neighbor's house for help when they saw Ascencion begin stabbing Carmen. When the neighbor went into the home he found the man stabbing the boy's mother and then the suspect threatened to stab the neighbor. Holmes said when officers arrived they found Ascencion standing over his wife with a knife. He said the man refused to put down the knife and an officer fired a stun gun at him. Holmes said, "At that point he stopped what he was doing and made an attempt to cut the probe from the Taser. He was successful in doing that and turned toward the officer that had Tased him and threatened him with a knife. At that point, two officers that were with him did fire their weapon." The man's wife was transported to a Valley hospital in critical condition with several stab wounds, according to Holmes. The investigation is ongoing.
