Man indicted in connection with death of girlfriend

GOSHEN – The Orange County grand jury has voted to indict a Town of Newburgh man in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend last weekend.

Robert Lee Williams, 25, was arrested on charges that he stabbed his live in girlfriend, Anna Tift, 23, of Cortland Drive in Parr Meadows in Middle Hope in the neck, killing her.

Until an indictment is formally filed with the court, probably next Tuesday, the crimes for which Williams has been charged cannot be made public, said District Attorney Frank Phillips.

At the time of his arrest, police charged him with second-degree murder.

Williams, who complained of pains after he was arrested by Newburgh Town Police, remains at Westchester Medical Center.

Once he is released, he will be brought to the Orange County Jail.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant ADA Michael Milza.
