Man Shoots Ex-Girlfriend, Self at Texas Hospital

TYLER, Texas —

Police say a man killed himself Monday after shooting his ex-girlfriend as she arrived for work at a Tyler hospital.

The woman was shot three times near East Texas Medical Center, but she managed to run to the emergency room, where she is an admissions clerk.

Police say 29-year-old Charles Aundrell Bell was waiting for 27-year-old Amber Lashea Pinkney to arrive around 2:20 a.m. Monday.

According to police, Bell opened fire as Pinkney was getting out of her vehicle, then shot himself. Pinkney was shot in the jaw, hand and shoulder area. She underwent surgery and was in stable condition.

Officer Don Martin told The Associated Press that Bell died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

ETMC says the hospital uses security guards and surveillance cameras. Employees can request an escort to and from their vehicles at any time, or use shuttle buses for outlying areas.
