An elderly Avondale Estates man killed his wife Wednesday and then shot himself to death, police said.

The murder-suicide was discovered shortly after 6:45 p.m. when police were called to a home on the 100 block of Clarendon Avenue for an apparent cardiac arrest. They found the body of a woman, 85, the victim of foul play, police said.

Later, after securing a search warrant, police found Edward Travis, 86, dead in a crawl space of the attic.

The name of his wife was not released, but state voter registration records lists an Anne Travis at the same Clarendon address as Edward Travis. Authorities would not say how she was killed.

A note, apparently written by Travis, was found requesting that he not be revived.

“Right now we have not found anything that would indicate it is something other than a murder-suicide,” said John Bankhead, spokesman with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
