TAMPA — A man shot and killed his estranged wife in her home, then drove to a nearby shopping center in Carrollwood and killed himself, authorities said Sunday.

The shootings appear to have taken place late Saturday or early Sunday, but it will take an autopsy to narrow down the time, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said.

Sheriff's officials did not release the couple's names Sunday because they were relying on law enforcement authorities outside Florida to notify their relatives, Callaway said.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was discovered dead at about 5:30 a.m. inside her apartment at 15023 Arbor Reserve Circle. That's in the Arbors at Carrollwood, a large complex west of N Dale Mabry Highway and south of Carrollwood Springs Boulevard.

Deputies went to the apartment because a relative had called them out of concern for the woman's safety.

After they found her dead, they began searching for the husband, who was in his mid 40s. They had a description of his car, and found it with him dead inside within an hour.

The car was parked outside a Staples store in the Carrollwood Commons shopping center, which is at N Dale Mabry and Ehrlich Road, about a quarter-mile east of the apartments.

The couple was in the process of getting a divorce, Callaway said.
