A 19-year-old Adelanto man was arrested this week on suspicion on animal cruelty after he threw his girlfriend's kitten against a wall during an argument with her, Sheriff's deputies say.

The kitten, estimated to be between eight and 10 weeks old, suffered severe head trauma and a fractured leg. It had to be euthanized at a local veterinary clinic, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to a call of animal cruelty at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment in the 18300 block of Montezuma Street, in Adelanto. Upon investigation, deputies learned that Dontay Dorell Gray had been in an argument with his girlfriend.

"Gray became so angry that he picked up his girlfriend's kitten, and threw it from the bedroom into the kitchen, causing the kitten to slam against the wall," according to a Sheriff's statement.

Gray was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and booked into Victor Valley Jail. Bail was set at $25,000.

Gray has a separate case in Victorville Superior Court where he faces charges of battery with serious bodily injury, according to the Sheriff's Department.
