PHOENIX -- A man suspected of shooting and killing his girlfriend’s son has been booked for murder, according to police on Friday.

According to Phoenix Police Officer Luis Samudio, 26-year-old Aaron Wedel was found in the garage of the home near 103 Avenue and Indian School Road at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Samudio said police have 53-year-old Mark Benson in custody and booked him for 2nd degree murder. He said Benson is the boyfriend of Wedel's mother.

Samudio said Benson may have been drinking before the shooting.

Apparently, police had been called to the home earlier in the day about a dispute between Benson and someone else in the home. Samudio said when officers arrived, Benson had already left.

According to Samudio, the victim's mother and four other children were in the home and did not witness the shooting.

Shelly Jamison with the Phoenix Fire Department said it was initially reported that two children were missing, but they were found hiding inside the house. They are said to be 4- and 5-years-old.

Wedel died at the scene, Jamison said.

Samudio said Benson lived at the home and was preparing to move out.
