Shoreline Police shot and killed an armed man on Wednesday after responding to a 911 call about a domestic fight.
The man, David Albrecht, held a knife and shotgun when he exited his house and did not drop them when told by officers to do so, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
As a result, officers fired at Albrecht, 22, who was hit at least twice. Officers, who are also King County Sheriff's deputies tried to apply pressure to his wounds, but Albrecht died at the scene.
The incident began at 1:04 p.m. when the Sheriff's Office recieved a 911 call from a residence in the 700 block of N. 200th St in Shoreline.
A man said to "come quick," something about, "fighting...has a knife...blood everywhere." Then he hung up. Police later learned this was Viktor Albrecht, the suspect's father.
Patrol officers were dispatched and a call receiver called in to the residence and spoke to a "hysterical" man who was "just telling us to come," according to police.
The man apparently set the phone down because the call receiver could hear a woman in the background say, "cover his neck, he's bleeding."
The first officer arrived shortly after 1:09 p.m. and the second a minute later.
A woman, Rachel James, walked out of the house shortly thereafter. She said she was the 25-year-old girlfriend of the suspect.
She had cuts to her hands and was bleeding. She told officers that her boyfriend, Albrecht, was suicidal, had cut his neck, and her hands were cut trying to get the knife away from him. She said the man's father was in the house and her boyfriend still had the knife.
She also said there was a loaded, "rifle" in a downstairs bedroom.
Soon after, Albrecht walked out of the house with the knife and shotgun, and was shot by police.
James was taken to Northwest Hospital and her wounds were treated there.
Albrecht lived at the home with his girlfriend despite a court order prohibiting contact between the two. He is listed in the state computer system as an "officer safety risk," from a 2010 incident in Snohomish County where he assaulted officers. He was also a convicted felon for an Assault 3rd Degree conviction.
The officers involved in the shooting are assigned to the Shoreline Police Department. They are 29 and and 34 years old and have been police officers for six and 11 years respectively.
Both have been placed on paid, administrative leave, a standard procedure in these situations.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
