SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Prosecutors say a Northern California woman stabbed to death her boyfriend's bearded dragon lizard.
The San Mateo County district attorney's office has charged 37-year-old Shawna Kim Apour with felony animal cruelty for killing the 14-year-old lizard, Speedy.
Sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny says the San Carlos woman used a 3-inch knife to stab the lizard during a Saturday morning domestic dispute. Investigators say Apour brandished a knife at deputies, who used a stun gun to subdue her.
The San Jose Mercury News says Apour is also facing charges for a Tuesday night incident in which she tried to wrestle a firearm and stun gun away from a deputy. Apour was stopped for walking on railroad tracks near a Caltrain station.
She is in jail with bail set at $200,000.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
