BUENA PARK An autopsy performed this week revealed that a husband and wife who were believed to be involved in a marital dispute each died of a gunshot wound to the head during an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.
William Schilling, 53, and his wife, Susan Schilling, 48, were discovered Sunday morning in a bedroom in their home in the 5700 block of San Benito Way, Buena Park police Cpl. Andy Luong said.
It appears William Schilling fatally shot his wife with a rifle before shooting himself, Luong said. Their daughter, who called police about a suicide, and her brother are believed to have been in the home at the time of the discovery.
One of their children told police their father recently inherited the rifle, described as a 30-06 rifle, from his father, Luong said.
Luong said the motive was believed to be a marital strife, but did not provide details.
