DEVELOPING...
A 4-month-old Nokomis boy was run over and killed by his father, Roderick A. Kroot, early this morning, law enforcement authorities said.
It is unclear how the accident happened. A neighbor called the Sarasota Sheriff's Office at 2:22 a.m. reporting a woman screaming, “Oh my God.” The caller reported two cars speeding away from the home, in the 500 block of Pine Road in Nokomis, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Kroot, 39, took the child to Venice Regional Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save the boy, named Cameron Kroot and born Nov. 29.
Detectives are still investigating. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Kroot and the mother of the child were fighting. Kroot tried to leave the house in his Toyota FJ Cruiser. He backed up the vehicle but the child was in its path and was run over, the FHP reported.
According to details gathered by SNN News 6, the mother's name is Thida Sou.
Kroot formerly worked for a sign business in Nokomis. The owner of Signtist said he had been laid off last summer.
