Fort Wayne, IN: Pup killed out of spite, police say

FORT WAYNE – A Fort Wayne woman is accused of strangling her boyfriend’s 7-month-old pit bull with a speaker cable in May.

Santana L. Bean, 25, was charged Friday with killing a domestic animal, a Class D felony punishable by up to three years in prison.

According to court records, Bean became upset with her boyfriend, who was living with her, when he did not come home one night.

Her boyfriend told police that when he returned home the next day, May 15, he went into the garage and found his dog dead, with a red speaker cable wrapped around its neck.

After Bean’s boyfriend left the home, she sent him text messages suggesting that she felt she had been cheated on. “Da look on yo face seein yo dog hanging? PRICELESS now both of us can hurt!” one message read in part.

Another message said: “Red has had an unfortunate accident! … Now lets see if dat bytch will get u a new dogg! Lol lol lol lol.”

She also sent a photo of the deceased dog to her boyfriend’s cellphone, court records said.

Animal Care and Control officials examined the dog and determined that it had been strangled to death.

Bean, of the 4300 block of Weisser Park Avenue, was not in custody Friday.

She has a warrant for her arrest.
