Dayton, OH: Domestic fight ends in fatal shooting of woman

DAYTON — Police say an argument led a boyfriend to shoot his girlfriend in the face before fleeing the house they shared at 719 Almond Ave. The girlfriend died at the scene.
Officers arrested Mark A. Reed, 44, about four hours after the shooting death of Lisa D. Palm, 43, said Dayton police Sgt. Dan Mauch, head of the homicide unit.
Palm was shot once. Mauch declined to say what the argument involved.
Reed was the only suspect and confessed to shooting Palm in a domestic dispute, Mauch said. Police have not recovered the weapon because Reed could not remember where he dumped the gun during his flight, Mauch said. Officers found Reed shoeless in the neighborhood because “he ran out of his shoes,” Mauch said. He was taken downtown for questioning. Following the questioning, Reed was arrested.
Reed is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder. Formal charges probably won’t be filed until today, the sergeant said. In Montgomery County, charges must be approved by a three-prosecutor panel.
A Dayton police report two years ago identified Reed and Palm as engaged. At the time, her car was linked to an aggravated robbery in Toledo, and police subsequently arrested her son in connection with the robbery. The report indicated that Reed kept a gun in the house he shared with Palm.
