Mobile, AL-A 37-year-old Elberta woman was listed in critical condition Saturday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola following a domestic dispute with her husband, who died of an apparent self-inflicted shotgun wound at the couple's apartment, according to Elberta Police Chief Stanley DeVane.
Devane said Deana Cotton was found with shotgun wounds to her groin and leg around about 11:50 a.m. Saturday at an apartment duplex on U.S. Highway 98 in Elberta. Her husband, Rodney Craig Cotton, 40, was found dead in the couple's apartment.
The couple had an ongoing dispute for about a year, Devane said.
He said during Saturday's incident the wife was attempting to leave the apartment when her husband shot her. She managed to flee to another apartment complex and call 911, according to the chief.
DeVane said a suicide note was found at the couple's apartment.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
