BIG FLATS -- A 38-year-old Adams man is dead and his 28-year-old ex-girlfriend is hospitalized after a domestic dispute that ended in an apparent attempted homicide-suicide.
At 3:45 a.m. Monday, the Adams County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a shooting in the 900 block of West Trout Valley Road in Big Flats, according to a news release from the Adams County Sheriff's Department. The caller reported a woman at the residence was shot while sleeping in a bedroom.
The 28-year-old woman's former boyfriend shot at her through a bedroom window, according to the news release. The woman and man had been involved in a domestic disturbance Sunday evening, and officers arrested the man. He was released after posting a bond.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the dead 38-year-old man lying on the ground outside the woman's bedroom. He was the victim of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Emergency personnel transferred the 28-year-old woman to Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield with non-life-threatening injuries, the news release said. A condition report was not available Monday evening.
The Wood County Sheriff's Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Rome Police Department, Nekoosa Ambulance, Big Flats Fire Department and Adams County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene.
