A 39-year-old man who is suspected of strangling his ex-girlfriend after the couple were found unresponsive in her bathtub this month has been discovered dead, officials said.
The man was found dead inside a home from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot in southeast Houston about a week after the woman died, officials said.
The body of Nathan Mitchell was discovered Wednesday at a residence at 5907 Beldart, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said investigators believe Mitchell was a suspect in the death of 37-year-old Lashonda Moye, who was found unresponsive in her bathtub about 1 a.m. June 4 at a home in the 10200 block of Cherry Limb in southwest Houston. Mitchell was found unresponsive in the tub with her.
Moye was rushed to Memorial Hermann- Southwest Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Mitchell also was taken to a hospital.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that Moye was strangled and ruled her death a homicide.
Officers were dispatched to the home on Cherry Limb on an emergency call about a home invasion. The person who made the 911 call said someone was trying to hurt the person, police added.
Police said no one answered the door when officers knocked. They looked through a bathroom window and spotted Moye and Mitchell in the tub. The officers went inside. There were no signs of forced entry at the home.
Moye and Mitchell both were found partially clothed.
Police said a preliminary investigation determined Mitchell was a suspect in Moye's death. When investigators went to the residence, they found him dead.
Police didn't release information that led investigators to believe Mitchell was suspected in Moye's death.
Police also did not release information about the 911 call concerning the home invasion or if a home invasion had indeed occurred.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
