WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Police have released the name of a North Texas man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend before killing himself.
Waxahachie (wahks-uh-HA'-chee) police say 26-year-old Nicholas W. Winkles of Arlington was the gunman in the May 27 attack. The victim was 24-year-old Catherine Vasquez Walker.
Police Chief Chuck Edge told the Waxahachie Daily Light that Walker's current boyfriend and her toddler son were at her house when the armed former boyfriend showed up.
The current boyfriend, who was injured in a fight while trying to disarm the gunman, was treated and released from a hospital.
The child wasn't hurt and has been placed with his maternal grandmother.
