SOUTH BEND — A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder after his wife was found dead in their home in South Bend.
Brian Cocot admitted to investigators that he struck Marsha Cocot, 38, with a hammer and then strangled her until she stopped breathing, according to court documents.
He is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail without bond.
Brian had apparently planned to kill himself after killing his wife, he told investigators. But when his suicide attempt failed in Elkhart, he told police to check on his wife at their home at 19725 Southland Avenue, south of Kern Road.
When St. Joseph County Police arrived at that home, they found Marsha dead inside and natural gas leaking into the home, court documents show.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
