Reno, Nev. -- A Silver Springs woman is dead and her boyfriend is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head after authorities say the man called 911 to report he had killed his girlfriend and was about to commit suicide.
Lyon County Sheriff's investigators say Leland Scott Lawson, 33, called emergency operators shortly before 1pm Monday to say he had killed his girlfriend, that he was about to shoot himself, and that there was a one-year-old child in the home on Deodar Street in Silver Springs.
"Tell the cop to come on in," Lawson reportedly told the operator during the call.
Deputies responded to 3466 Deodar Street and found a woman dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Lawson was also shot in the head, but was still alive. He was flown to the hospital for treatment, and his condition is unknown.
An 18-month-old child was found unharmed in the back bedroom of the home and was placed with Child Protective Services.
Authorities are still investigating whether there was a history of domestic violence between the pair.
The woman has not yet been publicly identified.
