Two bodies were found in an apartment near Chandler Boulevard and 34th Street in Phoenix.
Steven Gibson, 51, and his wife, Charlene Gibson, 37, were found dead in an apartment unit in the Ahwatukee Foothills after family members called the police to report that they had not heard from the couple in several days, police said.
The silence from the two was "unusual enough for [the family] to call," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.
Investigators believe the couple was last heard from either Wednesday or Thursday of last week, Crump said.
Police found the bodies. Authorities also found a dead cat and a firearm in the apartment. There was no sign of forced entry or any sign of a "violent conflict," Crump said.
Investigators believe the shooting was a murder/suicide, Crump said in an email.
"It's very shocking," said Sahla Charoosaie, a real-estate agent in the neighborhood. Charoosaie said she has lived in the neighborhood for 21 years and has "never seen anything like this... It's the safest neighborhood you can imagine."
While the two bodies are believed to have been dead for four or five days, no gunshots were reported in the area according to Crump.
"I don't know how the apartment above them didn't smell it," said Conrad Johnson, who lives above and adjacent to the apartment in which the bodies were found. He did not smell anything himself until the police arrived and opened up the apartment, nor did he hear gunshots.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
