A Tacoma man charged with killing his wife then setting their house on fire pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree murder and first-degree arson.
Superior Court Commissioner Patrick Oishi ordered Michael Carlson, 53, jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
Pierce County prosecutors contend Carlson shot 46-year-old Laura Carlson five times before torching their home in the 7200 block of South Lawrence Street on Jan. 3.
Fire crews found Laura Carlson dead inside the home and pulled Michael Carlson from a bedroom. He was seriously burned in the fire and taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
He was released from the hospital Friday and booked into the Pierce County Jail.
