Husband Charged in House Fire that Killed Woman
An Alamance County man will serve up to 50 years in prison for intentionally setting a fire that killed his wife last summer, according to the Alamance County district attorney.
Mark Porter pleaded guilty Monday morning to charges of second-degree murder, first-degree arson, felony larceny and felony burning of personal property. He'll serve between 40 years, 7 months and 50 years, 4 months in jail for the crimes.
In June 2009, Porter's wife, Lisa, died in a fire at the home the couple rented on Highway 62 North in Alamance County.
Monday morning, lawyers had just finished preliminary motions and were about to begin selecting jurors when Porter entered his plea.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
