MARTINEZ — A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of his live-in girlfriend, who was beaten with a baseball bat at their Oakley home last week.
Francisco Javier Ayala-Lares was charged Friday with murder and a weapon enhancement, according to court records. He is scheduled to enter a plea on the charges in Contra Costa County Superior Court on April 1.
Elizabeth Reyes, 21, the mother of the suspect's two children, was found dead inside the couple's home on Pheasant Way on Wednesday after Ayala-Lares called police from another location. The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office said she died of multiple head wounds inflicted by a baseball bat.
Ayala-Lares turned himself in to police on the day of the killing. Their children, a 2-year-old girl and 11-month-old boy, were taken into protective custody.
Ayala-Lares remains in County Jail on $1,050,000 bail.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
