JEFFERSON â Authorities this morning released the names of two people who died in a murder-suicide yesterday in Ashe County.
Sherry Ashley, 48, was shot twice by her boyfriend, Richard Creal Hailey, 51, who then turned the rifle on himself, said Ashe County Sheriff James Williams. The shooting happened at a home at 160 Whispering Pine Lane.
The sheriff said the couple had been together a few years and had no history of domestic violence. Hailey had been treated for mental illness, and was on medication for it, he said.
A neighbor called 911 at 2:20 p.m. yesterday after hearing several gunshots.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
