BOONE COUNTY, Ky. -- Startling new statistics show the number of domestic violence calls the city of Cincinnati is double what it was at this time last year. In the past four weeks, the tri-state has seen four women killed as a result of apparent domestic violence.
With that in mind, the Boone County Sheriff's Department isn't taking any chances when it comes to domestic violence.
This week, they arrested 40-year old Nathan Flerlage after he failed to appear in court on an assault charge. Flerlage is charged with assaulting his wife in their home on March 1.
Flerlage was arrested and then police say he ignored an emergency protective order when he was released a few hours later.
"I don't think he has a lot of respect for his family and it's obvious he doesn't have a whole lot of respect for the law, " said Tom Scheben, the public information officer for the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
Not only that, but police also say that Flerlage, a convicted felon, had guns stashed throughout his home.
"How's that for respect for your family? A loaded weapon under your juvenile daughter's mattress," said Scheben.
Flerlage is now at the Boone County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
"How far will he go? It's a rhetorical question, but it's not one I want to find the answer to," said Scheben.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
