A man who strangled a woman in 2007 and stuffed her body under an abandoned Pearl Street house has been sent to jail for more than 20 years.
Eighth Circuit Solicitor Jerry Peace said Monday that Derrick Lashawn Anderson, aka "Nose Guard,” 34, of Greenwood, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. Judge Bubba Griffith sentenced the suspect to 23 years in prison, of which he will have to serve at least 85 percent.
Eighth Circuit Chief Deputy Solicitor Andrew Hodges prosecuted the case, while Charles Grose represented Anderson.
Anderson initially had been charged with murder.
The incident occurred in August 2007. The victim in the case, Susan Renee Edens, 40, was last seen by friends and family on Aug. 16, 2007.
Her body was found on Aug. 20, 2007, in the crawl space of an abandoned home on Pearl Street.
Law enforcement officials discovered the body after local residents reported a “foul odor” emanating from the home that afternoon.
Police indicated Anderson and Edens previously had a "romantic interest.”
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
