CENTER TWP. — The Beaver County coroner’s office has ruled the deaths of an elderly Center Township couple as a murder-suicide.
Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi identified the husband and wife as Harold and Eileen Carl, both 82, of 1066 Chapel Road. Eileen’s death was ruled a homicide, while Harold Carl’s death was ruled a suicide, Tatalovich-Rossi added.
Center police Chief Barry Kramer said that a home-health nurse had arrived at the Carl residence shortly after 9 a.m. Friday and let herself into the house.
There, Kramer said, the woman, whom he didn’t identify, found Harold Carl in the living room, and called police.
Kramer said Harold Carl was holding a handgun when he was found sitting in a chair. His wife was found lying in her bed.
Both Carls had gunshot wounds to the head, Tatalovich-Rossi said. She pronounced both dead around 9:50 a.m. Friday.
Kramer and Tatalovich-Rossi said they believe the shootings took place shortly before the home-health nurse arrived.
Kramer said there were no apparent signs of a struggle, and that the Carls’ residence was neat and tidy.
Kramer said the home-health nurse had been going to the Carl residence daily because Eileen Carl had ongoing health issues.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
