Cody, WY: Cody man killed after firing rifle at police

CODY, WY- A Cody man was shot and killed after firing a rifle at police officers during a Tuesday night domestic dispute call.

Cody Police arrived at the home of 34-year-old Jared Christen on River View Drive at around 10 p.m. after his wife reported that he was "throwing furniture, it's getting physical."

Christen's wife told police upon their arrival that there were three children in the house, and Christen had access to firearms.

Police officers were able to remove a toddler from the house, but Christen's other two sons remained in the basement with him.

After about an hour of negotiations, Christen refused to release his sons or leave the basement, and started firing shots from inside the house at the officers.

Police report he then came up from the basement and continued to fire shots, ignoring commands given by the officers.

A Cody police officer shot Christen. He was transported to West Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting is under investigation by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
