An estranged common-law husband used a shotgun to kill a 23-year-old San Leon woman and wound her dog before shooting himself in the head, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
Sheriff's deputies discovered the bodies of Luvena Hunt and her husband, Brett Priddy, 23, of Newark, in Hunt's San Leon home in the 800 block of 18th Street, sheriff's spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said.
Tuttoilmondo said a sheriff's 911 operator received a call from Hunt at 4:17 p.m. Thursday saying that Priddy was threatening to shoot himself. Sheriff's deputies arrived and found Hunt with more than a dozen wounds.
Priddy had a single gunshot wound to the head, Tuttoilmondo said. A 9 mm pistol was found near his body.
Hunt's pit bull terrier was severely wounded by a shotgun blast. Officials euthanized the dog because of the severity of its injuries. Detectives believe the dog was trying to protect Hunt.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
