GUILDHALL, Vt. (AP) — A Guildhall man has pleaded guilty to charges he shot and killed his girlfriend in the home they shared.
Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Chase had been charged with first degree murder in the August 2008 shooting death of 22-year-old Sara Bragdon.
WCAX-TV is reporting Chase pleaded guilty to a charge of second degree murder. Prosecutors said it would have been too hard to prove premeditation, a requirement for the more serious charge.
Chase told investigators he didn’t remember why he shot Bragdon.
Chase is facing 20 years to life in prison. Sentencing will be at a later date.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
