UNION, S.C. -- A South Carolina man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his 31-year-old girlfriend in Union.
Multiple media outlets report that a Union County jury found Jamel Good guilty of murder Friday afternoon after a weeklong trial.
Prosecutors say Good killed Maria Fernandez in September 2008. Her skeletal remains were found four months later in some woods.
The couple's 6-year-old son testified he saw his dad kill his mother and bury her body in the backyard.
Judge James Williams mentioned that testimony as he sentenced Good to life, saying he couldn't find it in his heart to have mercy.
Good's lawyer says prosecutors never produced a murder weapon or DNA evidence and couldn't definitively say where or how Fernandez died.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
