CLEVELAND -- A man was shot and killed by Cleveland police Wednesday afternoon after the suspect stabbed an officer during an arrest attempt.
Cleveland police union officials said an officer was stabbed in the leg while trying to arrest the 29-year-old man on an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic violence.
According to union president Steve Loomis, the incident began when the suspect was spotted on a Cleveland street and a chase ensued, ending at a home on Signet Avenue, near East 128th Street.
Police said officers trapped the man inside a room of the house. Police said the suspect tried to push his way through the door and in the process the suspect stabbed an officer in the leg.
An officer fired back, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to Huron Hospital and the Cuyahoga County coroner's office said he was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.
The officer is being treated at MetroHealth. There is no word on his condition.
