PHOENIX - 17-year-old Thomas Odom has been convicted of murder, after a 10 hour deliberation by jurors.
Because Odom is a juvenile, he is not eligible for the death penalty. He faces a sentence between 25 years to life in prison.
In April of 2010, 15-year-old Iva Herman's body was found. She had sustained blunt force trauma to the head.
She had last been seen leaving an El Mirage library with her boyfriend, Thomas Odom.
Odom beat her to death and dumped her body in a culvert near near 126th Avenue and Thunderbird. DNA evidence linked him to the body.
Sentencing is set for August 18.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
