ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (KTIV) - A Rock Rapids, Iowa, man, who was shot in the head, Sunday night, has died.
Authorities-- who had charged his live-in girlfriend with attempted murder earlier in the day-- say those charges will now change.
Lyon County Sheriff, Blythe Bloemendaal says he doesn't know what charges 51-year-old Laura Lowe will face.
Bloemendaal said Lowe and Hofer had been drinking, Sunday night, and a fight broke out between them inside Hofer's home. That's when Lowe allegedly grabbed a .22 caliber rifle and shot Hofer in the back of the head.
When authorities originally questioned Lowe and a roommate who lived in the basement about the incident... both said Hofer tried to commit suicide.
But, Sheriff Bloemendaal says their stories didn't add up when they were questioned individually. Blythe Bloemendaal, Lyon County Sheriff, said, "The entrance wound that we have to the victim is the top, back of the head. Well, that would be absolutely phenomenal that this individual A, would choose it in that fashion, and be able to even pull that off."
The roommate living in the basement, 61-year old Larry Griffin has now been charged as an "accessory after the fact" in the case.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
