JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — A 66-year-old Jackson woman has been fatally shot at a rest stop along Interstate 40 in Benton County and police have arrested the victim's estranged husband.

John Mehr, special agent in charge with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said 66-year-old Billy Bridges, of Franklin, shot and then stabbed his estranged wife, Eva Bridges, around 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

Ben Meisler, a witness to the shooting, told The Jackson Sun that he was about five feet away when he heard several rapid gunshots. Meisler, his wife and other travelers hid inside a building at the rest stop until the police arrived.
