MACON, Ga. (AP) - A jury deliberated less than two hours before finding a Macon man guilty of murder in the shooting death of his wife.
The Macon Telegraph reports that 33-year-old Tavaris Smith was convicted of malice murder Thursday night after he was retried for the 2003 shooting. Smith was sentenced to life in prison.
Smith was convicted of murder in 2005 in the death of 27-year-old Tiffany Smith, but the conviction was reversed by the Georgia Supreme Court in 2008.
Prosecutors argued throughout the trial that Smith was a jealous, controlling husband and that the shooting was intentional. The defense says the shooting was "a tragic accident."

Tiffany Smith was my cousin. I didn't talk to her much but she had so much life ahead of her. So why do they insist on letting that murder go. He took a life so why should he live his in the free world, when Tiffany can't see her mom or hold her kids.
