JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville police are searching this morning for a suspect in a deadly shooting at an apartment complex.

Jacksonville Police Chief Reece Daniel said detectives are securing a warrant for the arrest of the alleged shooter, Gregory Charles Taylor II, 22.

Taylor is a black male, 5-11, 160, and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, the chief said.

At 4 a.m., police were called to the Sweet Union Apartments on U.S. Highway 69 in response to shots being fired.

Officers found the victim at the bottom of stairs outside Building 5. Daniel said the man had two shotgun wounds to the forehead.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Kendrick O'Neal of Jacksonville, Daniel said.

“During our investigation, we developed a witness, who was also the person who called 911,” Daniel said. “She is the former girlfriend of the alleged shooter and the current girlfriend of the victim.”

Chief Daniel said that Taylor has a long criminal history stemming from his juvenile years, including deadly conduct with a weapon, multiple counts of assault causing bodily injury, evading arrest, drug charges and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
