BALTIMORE -- City police said a man is dead after exchanging gunfire with a police officer responding to a domestic violence call.
Baltimore City police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said officers responded to the 1800 block of Hope Street Saturday at about 1:40 a.m.
Officers said they found a man armed with a gun who had shot his wife.
Guglielmi said the man was combative with police and confronted officers. He said it appeared several shots were fired by the police officer and the man.
It was not clear if the man died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or a shot fired by a police officer.
The condition of the man's wife was not known. .
